Fathering Me began in June of 1997 with the creation of the Father's First program. It was designed to provide support for adolescent fathers experiencing difficulty embracing the fatherhood role and responsibilities. By the Fall of 2000 the program served fathers of all ages. The goal was to ensure fathers could receive counseling, education and support increasing their confidence and parenting competency.
The Bronx Fatherhood Program created in 2008, was a full service program that provided supports for 16 to 24 year old non-custodial fathers. The goal was to provide individual counseling, couples counseling, education and support groups. Enrolled fathers were referred to community partners to address outstanding educational and vocational needs. An essential component of the program focused on goal setting, life skills, and strengthening communication, parenting, and co-parenting relationships.
Consultation services are developed in partnership with our clients to ensure we are meeting their needs. Our program design, implementation and direct service experience contributes to a holistic view of this important work.
I was fortunate to collaborate with NY Times Photo Journalist Benjamin Norman to create our inaugural documentary. The success of this program is a great illustration of what is possible when young men are provided with relevant and timely information.
Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld along with a number of other committed celebrities host a luncheon at the Palm restaurant in NYC for Program Staff and young fathers enrolled in Father's First and the Bronx Father's Program.
My first live in studio interview highlighting the success of the Bronx Fatherhood Program. A great example of a fathers commitment to get it right. Every day was filled with amazing conversations, insights and achievements.
